Follow The Directions

01

Step
8 mins

Bring a large pot of generously salted water to a rolling boil. Add the egg noodles and cook according to package directions until al dente, about 6-8 minutes; drain thoroughly.

02

Step
5 mins

While the noodles are cooking, melt the butter in a large skillet or pot over low heat. Add the panko bread crumbs and stir constantly until they are evenly coated in butter and lightly toasted, about 3-5 minutes. Be careful not to burn the butter or bread crumbs.

03

Step
2 mins

Add the drained noodles to the skillet with the buttered bread crumbs. Gently toss to combine, ensuring that the noodles are well-coated. Season with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste.

04

Step
25 mins

Cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally at first, then less frequently as a crust begins to form on the bottom of the noodles, about 20-25 minutes. Allow the noodles to develop a golden-brown, crispy crust on the bottom before stirring again. The less you stir, the more crust you'll get.

05

Step
1 mins

Once a significant crust has formed and the noodles are heated through and crispy in places, remove from heat and serve immediately.

For an even richer flavor, use brown butter. Cook the butter over medium heat until it turns a nutty brown color and smells fragrant before adding the bread crumbs.
Experiment with different types of bread crumbs. Italian seasoned bread crumbs add another layer of flavor.
Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a subtle kick.
Grated Parmesan cheese, tossed in at the end, takes this dish to another level.
This dish is best served immediately while the noodles are still crispy. However, leftovers can be reheated in a skillet or oven, though they will lose some of their crispiness.
For a vegetarian main course, toss in some sauteed vegetables, such as mushrooms, spinach or asparagus.

The reserved pasta water is key! It really helps to keep the noodles from drying out.
