Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray a 2-quart baking dish with nonstick spray. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Whisk together the milk, eggs, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until well combined. (3 minutes)

03

Step

Place about 3/4 of the bread cubes into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle evenly with the diced ham and 1 cup of the shredded Cheddar cheese. Carefully pour the egg mixture over the bread, ham, and cheese. Add the remaining bread cubes, gently pressing them into the liquid to ensure they are submerged. Sprinkle the remaining Cheddar cheese evenly over the top. (10 minutes)

04

Step

Bake in the preheated oven until the casserole is light golden brown and set in the middle, approximately 40 minutes. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean. (40 minutes)

05

Step

Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. This allows the casserole to set slightly and makes it easier to cut. (10 minutes)

For a richer flavor, use whole milk or half-and-half instead of milk.
Add a dash of nutmeg or Dijon mustard to the egg mixture for extra depth of flavor.
Feel free to experiment with different types of bread, cheeses, and meats to create your own signature casserole.
The casserole can be assembled the night before and refrigerated. Add about 10-15 minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
Serve with a side of fresh fruit or a dollop of sour cream for a complete and satisfying breakfast.
