Follow The Directions

01

Step

Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with aluminum foil. (Prep time: 5 minutes)

02

Step

Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe glass or ceramic bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring after each melting, until smooth. This should take approximately 1 to 3 minutes, depending on your microwave's power. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate, as it can scorch. Using a spatula, quickly spread the melted chocolate evenly in the prepared pan until the bottom is covered. (Cook time: 5 minutes)

03

Step

Sprinkle the crushed candy canes evenly over the melted chocolate, and gently pat them down with a clean spatula to help them adhere. (Assembly time: 2 minutes)

04

Step

If using the red confectioner's coating, melt it in a microwave-safe glass or ceramic bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring after each melting, until smooth. This should take approximately 1 to 3 minutes, depending on your microwave. Spoon the melted coating into a resealable plastic bag, snip off a very small corner, and drizzle it decoratively over the bark. (Optional step: 5 minutes)

05

Step

Place the pan in the refrigerator or freezer until the bark is completely hardened. This usually takes around 30 minutes. (Chill time: 30 minutes)

06

Step

Once hardened, remove the bark from the pan and peel off the foil. Break it into small, irregular pieces to serve. (Serving prep: 2 minutes)

For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark chocolate instead of semi-sweet.
Feel free to experiment with different flavored candy canes, such as peppermint or cinnamon.
If you don't have confectioner's coating, you can skip it or use white chocolate that has been colored with red food coloring.
Store the finished bark in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to a week.
