Follow The Directions

01

Step
2 mins

Generously spread softened butter onto the cut sides of each doughnut half. (2 minutes)

02

Step
1 mins

Evenly sprinkle dark brown sugar over the buttered surfaces. (1 minute)

03

Step
2 mins

Sandwich a pineapple ring between two sugared doughnut halves for each cake. (2 minutes)

04

Step
1 mins

Prepare four individual squares of heavy-duty aluminum foil with a generous coating of cooking spray. (1 minute)

05

Step
1 mins

Place each pineapple-doughnut sandwich onto the prepared side of a foil sheet. (1 minute)

06

Step
5 mins

Carefully wrap the foil around each sandwich to create a tightly sealed pouch, ensuring no gaps for steam to escape. (5 minutes)

07

Step
20 mins

Cook by placing the foil pouches near the hot embers of a campfire, turning occasionally to ensure even heating, until the doughnuts are heated through and the pineapple is warm and slightly caramelized. (Approximately 20 minutes)

For optimal results, use heavy-duty aluminum foil to prevent tearing. Double wrapping is also recommended.
Monitor the pouches closely to prevent burning, adjusting their proximity to the heat as needed.
If a campfire isn't available, these can also be baked in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for approximately 15-20 minutes.
Feel free to add a sprinkle of cinnamon or a dash of rum extract to the butter-sugar mixture for added flavor complexity.
Fresh pineapple can be used, but canned rings hold up better to the heat and retain more moisture.
