Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

Bring a large pot of salted water to a rapid boil. Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water. Lay noodles flat to prevent sticking. (8-10 minutes)

03

Step

In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Add onion, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Cook until beef is browned and onion is translucent, about 8-10 minutes. Drain any excess grease and set aside. (10 minutes)

04

Step

In a large bowl, combine ricotta cheese, Romano cheese, and 2 cups of the spaghetti sauce. Mix well to combine. Add the browned ground beef mixture and stir until evenly distributed. (5 minutes)

05

Step

Spread a thin layer of spaghetti sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.

06

Step

Begin layering the lasagna: Start with a layer of noodles, overlapping as needed to cover the bottom of the dish. Spread a generous layer of the ricotta mixture over the noodles. Scatter several fresh basil leaves over the ricotta. Top with a layer of zucchini slices. Sprinkle 1 cup of mozzarella cheese over the zucchini. Repeat layers: noodles, ricotta mixture, basil leaves, and then the last layer of noodles.

07

Step

Top the final noodle layer with the remaining spaghetti sauce. Arrange the remaining basil leaves attractively over the sauce and sprinkle with the remaining 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese. (20 minutes)

08

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 50-55 minutes, or until the lasagna is bubbly and the cheese is melted and lightly browned. If the cheese starts to brown too quickly, loosely cover the dish with aluminum foil. (55 minutes)

09

Step

Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. This allows the layers to set and makes it easier to cut. (15 minutes)

For a richer flavor, use a high-quality Italian sausage in addition to or in place of the ground beef.
Feel free to add other vegetables, such as sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, or spinach, to the lasagna layers.
If you have leftover Bolognese sauce, this recipe is an excellent way to use it!
Make sure to not overcook the lasagna noodles.
