Follow The Directions

01

Step

Marinate the Chicken: In a shallow dish, submerge the chicken thighs in 1 cup of buttermilk. Ensure each piece is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. (4 hours - Overnight)

02

Step

Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 380 degrees F (190 degrees C) and allow it to preheat. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Prepare the Breading Station: In a resealable plastic bag, combine the flour, seasoned salt, and pepper. In a separate bowl, pour the remaining 1 cup of buttermilk. Place the panko bread crumbs in another bowl. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Bread the Chicken: Remove a chicken thigh from the buttermilk marinade, letting any excess drip off. Dredge it thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture, then dip it back into the buttermilk, and finally coat it generously with panko bread crumbs, pressing gently to adhere. (15 minutes)

05

Step

Air Fry the Chicken: Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Arrange half of the breaded chicken pieces in the basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Spray the tops of the chicken pieces with cooking spray. (5 minutes)

06

Step

Cook the Chicken: Air fry for 15 minutes. Flip the chicken pieces, spray the tops again with cooking spray, and continue cooking for another 10 minutes, or until the chicken is golden brown, crispy, and cooked through. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part should read 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). (25 minutes)

07

Step

Repeat and Serve: Repeat the process with the remaining chicken pieces. Serve immediately and enjoy!

For an extra crispy crust, try double-dredging the chicken: flour, buttermilk, flour, then panko.
Feel free to experiment with different seasonings in the flour mixture, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.
If you don't have buttermilk, you can make a quick substitute by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to 1 cup of milk.
Ensure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket; work in batches to achieve optimal crispiness.

I added a little hot sauce to the buttermilk for some extra zing. Delicious!
