For a milder flavor, use a good quality white balsamic vinegar instead of regular balsamic. If you don't have fresh shallots, you can substitute with 1 tablespoon of finely chopped red onion. Adjust the amount of crushed red pepper flakes to suit your desired level of spiciness. A pinch of cayenne pepper can also be used. The vinaigrette can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Bring to room temperature before serving.
