Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

On a baking sheet, arrange the chicken bones, carrots, celery, onion, and garlic. Drizzle with olive oil and toss to coat evenly. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Roast in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, stirring halfway through to ensure even browning. (30 minutes)

04

Step

Transfer the roasted bones and vegetables to a 6-quart slow cooker. Add the apple cider vinegar, bay leaves, salt, and peppercorns. (5 minutes)

05

Step

Pour in enough water to completely cover the bones and vegetables. (2 minutes)

06

Step

Cook on Low setting for an extended period of 24 to 48 hours. Check periodically, adding 1 to 2 cups of water as needed to maintain bone submersion. The longer it simmers, the richer the flavor. (24-48 hours)

07

Step

Once the broth has simmered to your liking, strain it through a fine-mesh strainer to remove any solids. (10 minutes)

08

Step

Pour the strained broth into jars or containers and refrigerate until ready to use. Skim off any fat that solidifies on the surface before using. (5 minutes)

For the most flavorful broth, use a mix of chicken bones, including some that are rich in collagen, such as backs, feet, or wings.
Don't skip the roasting step! Roasting the bones and vegetables adds depth and complexity to the final broth.
The apple cider vinegar helps to extract minerals from the bones.
Adjust the salt to your taste after the broth has finished simmering.
Bone broth can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or frozen for several months.
