Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (230 degrees C). (Prep time: 5 minutes)

02

Step

In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in oil and milk all at once with a fork. When mixture forms a ball, divide into 2 pieces. Roll out, one half at a time between two pieces of waxed paper. Line a 9 inch pie pan with one half. (Prep time: 20 minutes)

03

Step

In a large bowl, combine apples, lemon juice, sugar, and cinnamon. Mix gently but thoroughly and pour into prepared pie crust; dot evenly with butter. Cover with the remaining crust. Seal and crimp edges decoratively. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking. (Prep time: 15 minutes)

04

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, then reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Continue to bake for another 30 minutes or until apples are soft and the crust is golden brown. (Bake time: 40 minutes)

For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom to the apple filling.
A lattice crust not only looks beautiful but also ensures even baking and steam release.
Allow the pie to cool completely before slicing for cleaner, more defined slices.

I substituted brown sugar for white sugar, and it added a lovely caramel note to the pie. Highly recommend!
