Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a large soup pot or Dutch oven, crumble the ground beef. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring frequently, until browned and crumbly (approximately 5 minutes). Drain off any excess grease.

02

Step

Add the chopped bell pepper, onion, and celery to the pot. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables have softened slightly (about 5 minutes).

03

Step

Increase the heat to high. Add the drained and rinsed kidney beans, crushed tomatoes, shredded cabbage, beef broth, water, Worcestershire sauce, beef bouillon cubes, and minced garlic to the pot. Stir well to combine all ingredients.

04

Step

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let the stew simmer gently for at least 30 minutes, or up to an hour, to allow the flavors to meld and the cabbage to become tender.

05

Step

Ladle the hamburger stew into bowls and season with salt to taste before serving. Enjoy!

For a richer flavor, consider browning the ground beef with a tablespoon of olive oil or bacon fat.
Feel free to add other vegetables like carrots, potatoes, or diced tomatoes for added nutrients and flavor.
If you prefer a thicker stew, you can stir in a tablespoon of flour or cornstarch mixed with a little cold water during the last 15 minutes of cooking.
This stew tastes even better the next day, as the flavors have more time to develop. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
