Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat and Prepare Sausage: Reheat the sausage links according to the package instructions to eliminate any excess moisture. (Approximately 5 minutes). Cool on paper towels for 5 minutes, then pat dry. Slice the sausage into very thin rounds and set aside.

02

Step

Combine and Mix Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine 1-1/2 cups of flour, undissolved yeast, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and salt. Add warm milk, corn oil, egg, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Gradually add the remaining 1-1/4 cups of flour until a stiff, sticky dough forms. Stir in the sliced sausage. (Approximately 10 minutes).

03

Step

First Rest: Cover the bowl and let the dough rest for 10 minutes.

04

Step

Portion and Second Rise: Generously grease 12 muffin cups (2-1/2 inch). Portion the dough evenly into the muffin cups using a scoop or two spoons. (Do not use paper liners). Cover and let rise for 35 to 45 minutes. The dough will rise, but not double in size. (Approximately 40 minutes).

05

Step

Prepare Cinnamon-Sugar Topping: In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.

06

Step

Bake: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the 'fluffins' are well-browned. (Approximately 23 minutes).

07

Step

Cool and Finish: Let the baked 'fluffins' cool on a wire rack for 2 minutes. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle generously with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Run a knife around each roll to loosen them from the pan.

08

Step

Serve: Serve warm with pancake syrup. Refrigerate any leftovers.

Ensure the milk temperature is between 120-130°F to properly activate the yeast.
Do not overmix the dough; a slightly sticky dough is desired for a tender result.
For a richer flavor, use brown butter instead of melted butter for brushing.
These fluffins are best enjoyed fresh. Reheat gently in the microwave or oven.
